Cover image for Genes, Brain and Behavior
Artistically speaking, the March 2022 issue of Genes, Brain, and Behavior features one of my drawings on the front cover. It is the official publication of the International Behavioural and Neural Genetics Society.
I was working in Dr. Andrey Ryabinin’s lab at OHSU. He is a kind and brilliant person, and a prolific neuroscientist in the field of alcohol use disorder and social bonding. When the editor of Genes, Brain, and Behavior reached out to Andrey for ideas of a front cover image on the topic of social neuroscience, I gladly volunteered.
Many thoughts went into choosing a story and a delivery perspective. Two main thoughts were people’s mood in the post-COVID world and to remind ourselves of the positive power of social bonding. After many evenings working with sketch pens and two different drawings, I completed the sketch (below) that eventually became the cover of the journal’s March 2022 issue.
