I have noticed for a long time that I want more out of science than learning and doing science in the academic arena. This revelation didn’t come to me as a conscious/rational thought, but through raw feelings. The process and outcome of science both give me such intense excitement that sometimes it feels like a dancing flame in my chest trying to get out. In those moments, the excitement becomes uncontainable and I must share it with people around me, like when embers jump out of the fire and touch everything in its vicinity.
When the embers hit just right, they ignite a fire in another person’s chest. Seeing and feeling that second fire dancing back and forth, there are not many things in the world that can beat that feeling.
